WALKS & SHORT BREAKS 2008
Our Programme for 2008 includes some great Long Weekends and Short Breaks and a chance to experience the Isle Of Arran and Southern Ireland and the MacGillicuddy Reeks. Unless otherwise stated, our Weekends and Short Breaks include Transport from Dundee; all Accommodation in superior Bunkhouses; Breakfast and Packed Lunches; and Guiding throughout (weather permitting). Evening Meals can be arranged (where available), or Self-Catering is also an option. Guides will be operating for your safety and enjoyment and if necessary alternative low level Walks can be incorporated in to the Programme, if weather dictates.
SHORT BREAK - FRIDAY 9TH MAY - SUNDAY 11TH MAY - ISLE OF ARRAN

At no more than 20 miles long and 10 miles wide, the Isle of Arran is often described as 'Scotland in miniature'. The Isle of Arran is one of the most accessible of the Scottish Islands and one of the most Southerly. The line between the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland divides the island almost exactly in two and Arran mirrors the differing landscapes. The North is ruggedly Mountainous and sparsely populated, whereas the South, milder and home to the majority of the some 4,000 inhabitants. Our well-appointed Bunkhouse is situated in Lamlash, some 3 miles from the Ferry Terminal in Brodick, and over Saturday and Sunday, we aim to climb Goatfell (874m), A'Chir (720m) and Cir Mhor (799m).

Flying from Edinburgh to Dublin, we pick up our hire cars and travel to our base near Killarney. Over the next seven days, we aim to ascend all the 3000ft Peaks in Southern Ireland, in particular MacGillicuddy Reek's East and West, including the highest peak in Ireland - Carrauntoohil (1039m).

LONG WEEKEND - FRIDAY 11TH JULY - MONDAY 14TH JULY - THE FANNAICHS

In the heart of Wester Ross lies a wild and rugged land which is devoid of any roads. Only a handful of estate roads make inroads into this area, and they are mainly to the East. This is simply MOUNTAIN COUNTRY. The Fannaichs are a group of hills lying to the North of Loch Fannaich, and we aim to complete the nine Munro's over the long weekend.

LONG WEEKEND - THURSDAY 21ST AUGUST - MONDAY 25TH AUGUST - ULLAPOOL

Ullapool is nestled on the shores of Lochbroom about 1 hour North of Loch Ness and Inverness. It is the perfect base to discover Ross-shire and Sutherland. During our Long Weekend, with four full days on the Hill, our plan is to combine Munro's and the smaller Mountains in the area. The traverse of An Teallach's castellated ridge from Sail Liath to Bidein a'Ghlas Thuill is regarded as one of Scotland's classic routes; Conival and Ben More Assynt are two of the highest Mountains - and Munro's - in this rough and rugged stretch of the Northern Highlands; the 'nearly' Munro Foinaven; and lastly, but by no means leastly, the iconic Stac Pollaidh.

LONG WEEKEND - FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER - MONDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER - THE FISHERFIELDS (Dates to be confirmed)

These hills far from any road, are often referred to collectively as the Fisherfield Six. They are certainly the most remote of all the Munro's and in poor weather they are largely inaccessible. However, these high tops have some of the finest viewpoints, if not the finest, in all of Scotland and a visit to these summits on a good, clear day is an unforgettable experience. Our plan is to leave early on the Saturday from the Bunkhouse, and ascend Ruadh Stac Mor (918m) and A'Mhaighdean (967m) before an overnight wild camp at Pollan na Muice (525m). An early rise on the Sunday means a long day of climbing the remaining four Munro's of Beinn a'Chlaidheimh (914m), Sgurr Ban (989m), Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair (1019m), Beinn Tarsuinn and finally back to the comfort of our Bunkhouse.
